Counterfeit Money
There have been some counterfeit $20 and $10 bills distributed through the City of Harrisonburg as well as the entire Shenandoah Valley. Take the time to examine each bill you receive and consider the following:
- When comparing money in question, look for differences, not similarities
- Invest in a counterfeit pen but don’t rely solely on this
- Hold the bill up to light to detect the watermark
- Examine the serial numbers to ensure they match
- Be leery of individuals purchasing a single inexpensive item with a large bill
- If an individual passes a counterfeit bill; write down a description of the person, a vehicle description, and license plate if possible
