The company is looking for an experienced Casualty Claims Adjuster to work out of their South East Claims Business Unit located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. 

Fundamental Components of Position: Conducts thorough investigation of claims by contacting insured’s, claimants, witnesses, and other involved parties to secure loss information, including police reports, to determine liability, coverage, damages, and subrogation or salvage recoveries.

• Investigates, evaluates, and settles assigned claims promptly and according to policy provisions in an equitable and fair manner while promoting a high level of customer service.
• Adjust claims within delegated authority in compliance with Fair Claims Act.
• Identify and effectively pursue claim files that appear to be questionable and report to special investigation unit in accordance with department policy.
• Promptly identifies claims that have potential for exposure above individual authority and report such to claims supervisor.
• Maintain an effective claim diary system.  Document all claim activities in accordance with established procedures.
• May serve on catastrophe team.

Critical Success Factors:

• Aptitude to learn and utilize a variety of software and systems applications.
• Sound knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in the utilization of personal computers.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Well-organized with strong time management skills.
• High level of customer focus and commitment to meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
• Willingness to pursue development of insurance knowledge and professional insurance education (AIC).
• Sound knowledge of personal lines property & casualty insurance principles.
• Preferred candidate will have at least 2 years experience adjusting bodily injury claims.
